Sri Manakula Vinayagar School of Architecture has the following fully equipped laboratories at present, namely survey lab, material museum lab, carpentry lab, climatology lab and CAD lab to enhance the practical learning of students
Survey lab
Land surveying is basically an art and science of mapping and measuring land. This is very important, as without this service, railroads or skyscrapers could not have been erected and individuals could not have put fences around their yards to prevent intruding.
Surveying has to do with the determination of the relative spatial location of points on or near the surface of the earth. It is the art of measuring horizontal and vertical distances between objects, of measuring angles between lines, of determining the direction of lines, and of establishing points by predetermined angular and linear measurements. Distances, angles, directions, locations, elevations, areas, and volumes are thus determined from the data of the survey.
Studio
Sri Manakula Vinayagar School of Architecture has sufficient studios with drawing boards and stools/chairs. These studios also have a number of pinup boards so that the students can display their works then and there during the studio hours.
Material museum
Variety of building materials and new materials that are introduced in the market are displayed in the material museum.
Carpentry Workshop
The carpentry workshop is a place where students are given practical knowledge about the types of woods and its usage. This workshop provides ample production space, access to power tools and extensive array of hand tools. The model making is done at the carpentry workshop.
Climatology Lab
Climatic information of a place is an important parameter while designing buildings. In order to make students aware of the importance of designing according to the climate, a climatology lab with modern equipments has been established with the following equipments.
- Anemometer
- Solarmeter
- Barometer and
- Rain guage
